Today In Black History: October 17, 1888 Capital Saving Banks Opens
On Oct. 17, 1888, Capital Savings Bank, the first bank organized and operated by African-Americans, was founded in Washington, D.C. Capital Savings BankCapital Savings helped stimulate Black entrepreneurship by offering loans to Black-owned businesses and landowners when white-owned banks would not. Confidence in the bank continued to grow, and, by 1892, deposits were estimated at $300,000.

Black Gun Club protects Black Lives Matter protesters from Confederate sympathizers
Nicki Daniels Jr. and the Sleep Is For The Rich Gun Club showed up to the Caddo Parrish Courthouse on June 27, 2020 after Confederate sympathizers attempted to intimidate protesters demanding a Confederate Monument be taken down. The counter-protesters armed with handguns and rifles showed up Daniels felt the need to show up to protect Black Women, children, and unarmed Black Men practicing their constitutional rights.
